Uganda Cranes head coach Milutin ‘Micho’ Sredojevic has turned his focus on preparing the team for the 2018 Africa Nations Championship (CHAN) qualifiers.
“After winning away to Cape Verde in the Afcon qualifier, I want to start preparing the team ready for CHAN. We should have a team named by the end of this week and training starts next week,” Sredojevic told AfricanFootball.com.
Uganda will face South Sudan in the second round of the qualifiers next month with the first leg taking place in Juba on July 14th and the return leg in Kampala after two weeks. South Sudan ejected Somalia in the first leg.
“We are not going to take these matches for granted because we are facing South Sudan, but make sure we start preparing early.
“It is unfortunate that the League and Uganda Cup ended and some players are very not fit now,” he added.
In-case Uganda qualify they will next face the winner between Tanzania and Rwanda in the last phase of the qualifiers.
The 2018 CHAN competition is expected to take place in Kenya. Uganda has qualified for the last three CHAN events in Sudan (2011), South Africa (2014) and last year in Rwanda.
The Democratic Republic of Congo are the defending champions.
