Ghana holds 3rd edition of 30 km Road Baton Relays
Ghana will stage the 3rd edition of a National 30km road Baton Relay on Aug. 12, 2017, official in charge creating the brand new concept said.
Ola William, a Coordinator of Youth Programme under the Ghana National Olympic Committee (GNOC) told Echonewsng.com in Lome, the Togolese capital.
William, who spoke on the sidelines of the just-concluded FutbolNet Cup, where he assisted in coordinating the event, said that each of the Ghanaian regions would present six runners of both male and females to cover a distance of 5km each and then handover the baton to the next leg.
They will cover 30 kilometres in total at the end of the event.
“I created the concept. It was welcomed by all the regions. We started it out on the first edition in the Greater Accra before it was adopted as a National event.
“Many people are looking up to the event each year. He second edition,’’ William said.
He adds: “I am pushing for the event to go international. Indeed, I am hoping to approach the OlympAfrica to accept to adopt the event during its programmes’’.
Theirno Diack, the Executive Director, OlympAfrica Foundation based in Senegal, said would only comment on the project, when he would have seen and studied the details.
