CAIRO DERBY TO HAVE FOREIGN REFEREES

Next week’s Cairo derby will be refereed by foreign officials, as confirmed by the Egyptian FA.

Egyptian Premier League champions Al Ahly will put their unbeaten record on the line when they face Zamalek in the 34th round of the 2016/17 season. The match is set to be held on Monday, July 17.

The appointment of foreign referees is no surprise, with the Cairo derby renowned for being a fiery encounter, and the EFA are eager to ensure their own officials remain above reproach.

The EFA has also confirmed that the 2017/18 season of the Premier League will kick-off on Sunday, September 9 – the weekend after Egypt’s 2018 World Cup qualifier against Uganda.
