Turkmenistan Spends $5 billion To Host Asian Games, OCA says

Sheikh Ahmad Al Fahad Al Sabah, President of the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) said that $5 billion was spent by Turkmenistan to host the 5th Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games (AIMAG) in Ashgabat, the country’s capital.

Al Sabah said this on Monday in a press conference with journalists in Ashgabat, also congratulating the country for staging a “world class opening ceremony” on Sunday.

He said the money was not spent on the facilities alone but on accommodation, transportation, malls and all.

“Since 2010 when Turkmenistan was declared the host, we began preparations for it.

“With about five million population and on the part of maintaining the world standard facilities available, the President said that the country would host the continent in events henceforth.

“We will make sure that the sports facilities will be maintained by holding our Asian Games here and not just indoor but outdoor as well.

“We will also ensure professional maintenance of the equipments as it will also serve our children during their trainings, ” he said.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN)  reports that the country located around the Karakum desert is hosting the event for the first time.
