Namibia national team coach Ricardo Mannetti has named his 23-man squad for the upcoming 2018 Africa Nations Championship (CHAN) which takes place from 12 January to 04 February in Morocco.
According to a statement from the Namibia Football Federation (NFA),the coach will however keep two more players in camp after a friendly with Rwanda on Saturday.
“The boys have really given their all and due to that we have had the withdrawal for selection of goalkeeper Calvin Spiegel (ankle injury) and Immanuel Heita (knee injury) through injuries and then we had to decide on two more names and finally landed on Tjiuana Tja Tjinotjiua and Gregory Auchumeb,” said Mannetti.
“ Football is an unpredictable game and after the game on Saturday maybe we will still need to make changes due to that might occur and so they remain with us until then,”he added.
Tigers left winger Benyamin Nenkavu overcome his knee injury and fought his way into the Brave Warriors team for their maiden CHAN appearance, while Black Africa’s Emilio Martin, who can play at the back and in the midfield also makes the cut.
Life Fighters youngster Kleophas Useb and the Young African pair of Vitapi Ngaruka and Himee Hengombe and late replacement Itamunua Keimuine and Tura Magic club mate Junias Theophilus all makes the CHAN squad.
Namibia will open their campaign against Ivory Coast on 14 January then meet Uganda on 18 January in Marrakech and finally play Zambia in Casablanca in the final group game on 22 January with the top two teams advancing to the quarterfinals.
