Under the new arrangement, the time lag for the new partnership is two years, an extension of the one year time period from the previous sponsorship.
The momentous ceremony took place at Magnolia hall, Imperial Royal Hotel in the heart of the Ugandan capital city, Kampala.
Nile Special brand manager Francis Nyende witnessed the signing of the binding agreement on behalf of the beer company and Uganda Sports Press Association was heavily represented by the president Sabiti Muwanga, the Vice President Ritah Aliguma, General secretary Patrick Kanyomozi and the treasurer Mubarak Kasule.
Addressing the sports journalists after the presentation of the dummy cheque and signing of the contracts Nyende, expressed gratitude upon the deeds by USPA in promotion sports projects in the country.
We are honoured to renew this sponsorship with Uganda Sports Press Association (USPA). We are here to inspire Uganda’s greatest. The past 12 months with USPA have been tremendous. A lot of talent has come through reported by the media. The package will be renewed for another two years. We shall always partner with USPA and really excited with the kind of partnership.
An excited USPA President lauded Nile Special for the continued support for the USPA activities;
I am very happy that Nile Special has for over 10 years partnered with USPA and supported sporting events. You have indeed inspired sportsmen for more greatness. This sponsorship will give us a breather for the activities that we carry out. Our side of the bargain is increased publicity for Nile Special and we commit exactly that as we continue to work together for ages.
A large fraction of the money will be diverted towards holding USPA monthly meetings, 2018 road safety campaign and the annual sportsmen gala.
In particular, Shs 180M will be shared per year. Shs. 115M is ear marked for the USPA annual gala and the remainder for the monthly meetings as well as the quarterly galas.
Meanwhile, Nile Special will also partner with USPA in the upcoming annual road safety campaign that will take place in September 2018.
At the same assembly, the sports journalists voted for the respective best sports personalities for the months of March and April 2018.
Junior female chess player Peninah Nakabo triumphed in March ahead of Pirates Rugby Club whilst double goal medalist at the XXI Common Wealth games Joshua Cheptegei was the best in April.
