Nigeria’s Amusan Struck Debut Gold At African Championships

Nigeria’s Tobiloba Amusan won the women’s 100m hurdles in a time of 12.86 to earn the country’s first medal at the CAA African Athletics Championship, Asaba 2018.

South Africa’s Rikennete Steemkamp won silver and Cote d’Ivoire’s Rosvitha Okou won bronze.

Amusan, the commonwealth games champion ran a controlled race where she dominated from start to finish.

“I am excited to get the gold and also a ticket to the IAAF intercontinental cup; I just wanted to execute my race and not worry about breaking any records because, at championships, the gold is all that matters”

The victory at the African championship also earns her a place in African team to the IAAF intercontinental cup.
