Joy Udo-Gabriel won her first ever individual medal at the senior level for Nigeria after she earned a bronze medal with a time of 11.58s in the women 100m final at the African athletics championships, Asaba 2018.

Running in lane 5 beside African champion and eventual gold medalist, Marie Ta lou of Cote D’Ivoire, Udo-Gabriel ran a race that introduced her as the next best thing for Nigerian athletics in just her second senior event after winning bronze with the 4X100m team at the commonwealth games, Gold Coast 2018.

“it was fun, at least i was able to move with her” Udo-Gabriel on her closeness to Marie Ta lou in the final.

Udo-Gabriel who missed out of the world junior Athletics championships in Finland early in the year, believes the bronze medal she won at the CAA African Athletics championship is enough compensation.

“I was upset about it a lot but this made up for it, so i’m fine”.
