By Ihunanya Okoye

The report that team Kenya was unfairly mistreated due to the flight issues on their way to Asaba for the CAA 2018 championship became a blessing in disguise as the marathon racers shocked Africa to emerge victorious on the medals table for the 4th time since the competition started in 1979.

On their arrival to Asaba, Nigeria, reports had it that Kenyan athletes suffered depression due to their flight plight. However, it seems the depression turned to victory at the end of the Games on Sunday.

Meanwhile, a Kenyan official who spoke to AIPS posited that Kenya indeed shocked Africa because the athletes ventured into other events aside from their marathon race comfort which helped them to triumph at the Games.

He also said that determination and hardwork played a huge role in their success.

On the final day of the Games, Kenya won medals in 4x400m men, men and women 3000m steeplechase and men’s 20km walk.

With the victory, Kenya have now won the Africa senior athletics championship four times : in 1982,1984,2010(as hosts) and 2018.
