ADEBAYOR INCLUDED IN TOGO SQUAD DESPITE NO-SHOW LAST MONTH

Former Arsenal, Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur forward Emmanuel Adebayor has been included in Togo’s 22-man squad for their upcoming 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Algeria.

The 34-year-old’s inclusion comes as a surprise after he refused to play in the October qualifiers.

According to reports, Adebayor refused to play in Togo’s 1-1 draw against Gambia because of the poor state of the water-drenched pitch in Lome and duly failed to travel for the reverse fixture in Bakau either.

The Sparrow-hawks next face Algeria on the very same artificial playing surface in the Togolese capital net weekend, with head coach Claude Le Roy having come out in defence of the veteran forward.

Togo currently occupy third place in Group D, two points behind joint leaders Algerian and Benin.
