However, for the position of first Vice President former AFN President Solomon Ogba will be slugging it out with Jonathan Nnaji. The third candidate, Olumide Oyedeji, was disqualified for not being nominated the appropriate federation.
For the second Vice President, Mr Babatunde Fatayi Williams will slug the post with the President of Taekwondo federation, Mrs Elizabeth Binga and the President of Badminton federation, Barrister Francis Orbih.
Meanwhile, former Handball President, Alhaji Yusuf Dauda and the sitting President of Table tennis, Ishaku Tikon will stretch the ballot for a winner.
The position of the treasurer will be contested Hon Sunday Adeleye who is the sitting Technical Director of the AFN, with Prof Tunde Makanju and Alhaji Bappa Aliyu.
Four persons applied to become the Deputy Secretary General. Former hurdler, Henry Amike, was disqualified for late submission of his form. Others to enter into contest include Dr Esther Aluko, Enefiok Udo-Obong and Mohammed Abdullahi.
The position of the Public Relations Officer is the most contested with six candidates filing nomination papers to have the position. Olajide Fashikun was disqualified for late filing of nomination form. That leaves the stage foe five contestants. This include former NOC PRO Tony Nezianya, Oluphemmy Adetula, former SWAN National President Olu George Amadasun, Patrick Ibeh and Dapo Sotuminu.
Secretary General: The position may eventually not be contested after all if evidences available to www.gongnews.net is anything to go about. Incumbent Tunde Popoola and former occupant of the position, Mr Banji Oladapo were supposed to bid for the position.
The spanner in the wheel is a petition. Outgoing Secretary General of the Nigeria Olympic Committee (NOC), Mr Tunde Popoola, was caught in allegations of forgery. The petitioner, Mr Odoeme Aneh, has called for his criminal prosecution.
In a two-page petition addressed to the Chairman & members of the 2018 NOC electoral Committee, Aneh wrote: “my attention has been drawn to the ongoing submission and documentation candidates vying for various positions of the Nigeria Olympic Committee especially for the candidate seeking election into the position of Secretary General.
While we observed that Mr Tunde Popoola is not a current board member of the Nigeria Hockey Federation, we also discovered the following irregularities in his submission/ documentation.
i.That against the provisions of the electoral guidelines, the nomination of Mr Tunde Popoola was not signed the Nigeria Hockey Federation President, Abdul Ningi;
ii.That in Mr Tunde Popoola’s submission he did not provide a letter of introduction from the Nigeria Hockey Federation;
iii.That Mr Tunde Popoola presented an unverifiable document which is suspected to be fictitious and forged as qualification for seeking for election into the office of the Secretary General of the Nigeria Olympic Committee;
iv.That as a result of desperation for votes, he imposed on the Nigeria Olympians Association (NOA) a candidate that won the just concluded election conducted at the NOC Board room on the 27th November to bargain for votes for the NOC election slated for 20th December 2018 at Yola, Adamawa State.
v.We have written and will follow-up the case to a logical conclusion if Mr Tunde Popoola is not disqualified and prosecuted for the heinous crime against the Olympic family.
Mr Chairman, while reiterating the fact that we have absolute confidence in you and the other Honourable members of this committee, we indule you to treat this petition with all the attendant requirement and justice for posterity;
Meanwhile, we have attached herewith the nomination form and the purported appointment letter of Mr Tunde Popoola from African Hocket Federation for further scrutiny and subsequent prosecution a competent court of Law of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
His Prayers: The petitioner’s prayers, if granted, are:
A.That Mr Tunde Popoola be disqualified from contesting the position of the Secretary General of the Nigeria Olympic Committee;
B.That the Nigeria Olympic Committee should prosecute Mr Tunde Popoola for forgery, deceit and obtaining false pretense through which he contested and occupy the position of the Secretary General since 2010 to date;
C.That he must tender public apology and possibly pay damages if required to the Nigeria Olympic family.
The letter was copied to the President Nigeria Olympic Committee, the Minister and Permanent of Youth and Sports Development; If the petition is favoured, that will close the gates against Popoola running and makes Oladapo have an unopposed entry to the seat he left some years ago.
