Kaizer Chiefs and Mamelodi Sundowns lost their weekend matches, results that keep Amakhosi at the top of the log with two matches to go.
Kaizer Chiefs lost 1-0 to Bidvest on Sunday while Sundowns lost by the same margin to Baroka on the same day.
The rivals have 53 points each but Amakhosi are placed above the Masandawana as they have a better goal difference (20 vs 15).
The results of the remaining two games are of paramount significance to the title race.
Amakhosi are set to lock horns with Chippa United on the 2nd of September and will visit Baroka on the 5th.
Masandawana face Polokwane City and Black Leopards, in that order, on the 2nd and 5th of September.
