RIYADH, October 13, 2020 – Saudi Arabia has taken a number of measures to slow the spread of the novel coronavirus since the outbreak of the disease first began earlier this year. However, the country has announced plans of easing lockdown measures after a drop in its daily coronavirus cases.
The president of Saudi Sports Media Federation (SSMF) Dr. Rajallah Al-Sulami has held several meetings with sports journalists in the kingdom to know the effects of the pandemic on their job and income. The SSMF announced quick financial support to journalists who are unable to earn any money because of the lockdown.
In addition, the federation has asked journalists who are struggling financially because of covid-19 to apply to the federation charity fund which was established by the federation last year.
When the number of new daily cases in the Kingdom decreased rapidly, the Ministry of Sports resumed sports activities starting from June 21. The decision was made following a coordination with a medical committee responsible for following up the status of coronavirus in the kingdom. The Saudi Football League (MBS Pro League) restarted on 4 August and ended on 9 September.
