Sudan’s Al-Hilal Al-Ubayyid have leapfrogged to the top of Group C in the CAF Confederation Cup after defeating Egypt’s Smouha 2-1 at home on Tuesday night.
Goals from Abo Girfa and slam Mohareb left the game locked at 1-1, but the hosts claimed the victory at Al-Ubayyid Stadium thanks to an injury-time strike from Nelson Ladzagla.
Smouha and Al-Ubayyid drew 1-1 in their first clash earlier this month in Alexandria, but this time around the Sudanese side just managed to eke out a victory.
The other Group C match earlier today produced a win for Angola’s Recreativo Libolo over Zambian side Zesco United in Calulo.
As a result, Al-Ubayyid lead the pool with seven points, while Recreativo and Zesco are second and third respectively – both on six points. Smouha bring up the rear on four points.
The teams will play the penultimate round of group stage matches next weekend (30 June to 2 July), with Zesco hosting Al-Ubayyid in Lusaka and Smouha visiting Recreativo in Calulo.
