Sadly Ivorian legend Emmanuel Eboue has fallen on tough times and is begging for a job at former English club Arsenal.
Eboue earned millions playing at clubs in Europe like Arsenal Galatasary, where he even lifted the European Cup with the Gunners.
The defender also represented Ivory Coast on 79 occasions from 2004-2013 and scored three goals in that time.Eboue, though, has since fallen from grace and is broke after losing all of his assets (including money, houses and cars) in a divorce settlement with his ex-wife Aurelie Bertrand.
In an interview with the Sunday Mirror, Eboue explains how he lost the divorce battle that left his wife with all of their assets and how he has no contact with his daughters Clara, 14, and Maeva, 12.
“Every day I wash my jeans, my clothes, everything. My hands are hard. As though I have been working on a farm,” says the 34-year-old.0
“Sometimes I shut off the lights because I don’t want people to know that I am inside. I put everything behind the door.
“I am in the house but I am scared. Because I don’t know what time the police will come.
“I look back and say ‘Emmanuel, you have been naive… why didn’t you think about that before?’ It is hard.
“The money I earned, I sent it to my wife for our children.
“In Turkey I earned eight million euros. I sent seven million back home. Whatever she tells me to sign, I sign.”
Eboue is now pleading for work and has called on Arsenal or the PFA to give him a chance to get himself back on his feet after his disastrous run of misfortune.
“I would accept help from anywhere but if my previous club wants to help me then I would be very, very happy. Maybe I could help the young players?” added the Ivorian.
“The PFA helped me when I had my problems with my agent. If they gave me a job, even if it wasn’t a big, big job.
“Maybe I’d see some of the people I played with or against and I’d feel embarrassed. But I would cope.”
