LAUSANNE, November 1, 2021 – The clock is ticking. On Thursday, at 6 pm Central European Time, the submission period for the AIPS Sport Media Awards 2021 edition will close and the dream to be crowned across the 9 categories will start.
The AIPS Sport Media Awards are the only global prize for sports journalism, allowing all media professionals regardless of their work status and their language, to participate with works published in the past year (starting on November 10, 2020, finishing on deadline of November 4, 2021). Submitting is completely free and two submissions per person are available after registering at www.aipsawards.com.
CATEGORIES AND PRIZES There are eight senior categories split into Photography (Action Photo, Portfolio), Writing (Best Column, Best Colour Piece), Audio and Video (Documentary, Short Feature, Athlete Profile), each of them allowing a top prize of USD 8,000 (1st prize), with 3,000 (2nd) and 2,000 (3rd) completing the podium.
The optional Young Reporters Category is reserved for the Under 30s (born in or after 1992) and guarantees an AIPS scholarship at a top international event for the winners in Writing, Broadcasting and Photography.
GLOBAL INTEREST Over 3,500 colleagues have participated in the first three editions. More than 100 countries are already represented in this fourth edition, whose final gala will be in Italy in March 2022. The podium nominees will be announced after a thorough judging process that involves five different stages and 40 professionals from 35 countries.
The first stage is conducted by a team of AIPS experts and mentors, who will present a longlist to the 24 members of the Executive Committee. They will pick a shortlist of works and pass it to the Jury, composed by 11 members led by AIPS president, Gianni Merlo. In the third stage, the Jury will narrow the list (Top 10) and then pick the Podium nominees in the subsequent voting stage (Top 3), while the final voting sessions takes place before the ceremony.
CONTINENTAL RANKINGS The AIPS Sport Media Awards also release certificate of merits and publishes the continental rankings per category, thus celebrating sport media excellence on national and regional scale.
INVESTIGATIONS AND CAREER Two prestigious categories are not open to submissions and do not offer prize money: Investigative reporting and A Life in Sport are decided by the Jury each year.
We are gently reminding all sports journalists, photographers and video makers to submit before deadline. Please check your local time zone in order not to miss the closing hour of 18:00 Central European Time.
